Lewanda Lim est une artiste américano-philippine de 80 ans qui travaille à travers une grande variété de médiums et de styles. Ses projets actuels portent sur de grandes collages textiles tactiles qui explorent les enjeux environnementaux et sociaux contemporains. En utilisant des textiles, du fil, de la laine et de la peinture, elle crée des œuvres vibrantes et dynamiques qui reflètent ses idées et ses émotions. En cousant à la machine ses compositions à de nombreuses reprises — parfois des milliers de fois — elle enrobe et unifie tous les éléments, développant une surface texturée unique. Pour Lewanda, l'art est un outil permettant d'aborder les préoccupations urgentes liées à notre environnement et à nos systèmes politiques. Elle ressent une profonde responsabilité d'utiliser sa pratique artistique pour sensibiliser et susciter la réflexion.
Bio
Lewanda Lim is an 80-year-old Filipino American artist who works across a range of mediums and styles. Her current projects center around large, tactile fiber collages that explore contemporary environmental and social issues. Using textiles, yarn, thread, and paint, she creates vibrant, dynamic pieces that reflect her ideas and emotions. By repeatedly machine-sewing over her compositions, sometimes thousands of times, she encases and unifies all the elements, developing a unique textural surface. For Lewanda, art is a tool for addressing urgent concerns surrounding our environment and political systems, and she feels a deep responsibility to use her creative practice to raise awareness and provoke thought.
