Bio
Peignant depuis l’enfance, Gillian a étudié au Collège des Beaux-Arts au Royaume-Uni, où elle s’est spécialisée en design de mode. Elle a travaillé comme designer avant d’immigrer au Canada.
Alors qu’elle enseignait le design de mode au Collège St. Lawrence à Kingston, en Ontario, elle a exposé ses peintures au Centre d’art Agnes Etherington. Elle a ensuite déménagé à Montréal où elle a travaillé comme pigiste pour divers fabricants de vêtements, créant des modèles de vêtements de sport, de ski, de bain, des robes et des vêtements pour enfants, tout en étant responsable des illustrations informatisées pour les catalogues des entreprises.
En 2010, Gillian a déménagé à Toronto, mettant de côté le design de mode et l’art. Ce n’est qu’en 2023 qu’elle a recommencé à peindre. Ses œuvres récentes sont désormais influencées par la diversité culturelle de sa famille proche et par sa fascination pour la mosaïque ethnique qui l’entoure. Par conséquent, la plupart des personnages de ses tableaux sont d’une culture et d’un genre indéterminés. Travaillant de manière intuitive et organique, Gillian puise également son inspiration dans l’actualité, la fluidité de genre et les peintures corporelles autochtones. Les œuvres de Gillian se retrouvent aujourd’hui dans des foyers au Canada, aux États-Unis, au Royaume-Uni, en Europe et en Afrique du Sud.

Bio:
Painting since childhood, Gillian attended Art College in the UK majoring in fashion design. She worked as a designer before coming to Canada. While teaching fashion design at St. Lawrence College in Kingston, Ontario, she exhibited paintings at the Agnes Etherington Art Centre. She then moved to Montreal and freelanced for different clothing manufacturers, designing, sportswear, ski wear swim wear, dresses and children’s wear and being responsible for the computer art work for company catalogs. In 2010, Gillian moved to Toronto, leaving fashion design and art behind. In 2023 Gillian started painting again. Her latest work is now influenced by the diverse cultural representation of her immediate family and her fascination of the ethnic mosaic that she sees around her, consequently most of the people in her paintings are of indeterminate culture and gender. Working organically, Gillian is also inspired by current events, gender fluidity and indigenous body painting. Gillian’s art work can be found in homes in Canada, the US, the UK, Europe and South Africa..
