Né à Belœil (Québec, Canada) en 1990, l’artiste-peintre Mathieu Ruel développe très tôt un fort intérêt pour les arts visuels. Autodidacte et curieux de nature, Mathieu aime découvrir de nouveaux médiums. Très jeune, il parfait sa technique de dessin et gribouille dans tous ses cahiers d’école des corps humains en mouvement. Entre 2009 et 2014, il relève un premier défi professionnel en œuvrant dans les services d’urgence.
C’est d’abord comme pompier volontaire et ensuite comme ambulancier qu’il sera confronté à un contact direct avec la vie, la mort et la médecine moderne. Ces thèmes, par ailleurs, reviennent constamment dans sa pratique artistique. Mathieu choisit ensuite de réorienter sa carrière pour vivre de ses créations artistiques. Ainsi, en 2014, il devient artiste en art corporel (tatouage permanent). Cette expérience lui offre l’occasion de renouer avec la création et de laisser libre cours à son imagination. Il apprend par lui-même ce nouveau métier, mais suivra une formation privée en effets spéciaux de cinéma qui viendra complémenter ses nouveaux acquis.

En 2017, poursuivant son parcours professionnel hors du commun, les aptitudes artistiques et inventives de Mathieu Ruel le mènent à fonder une entreprise de simulation médicale innovante dans la création de membres et d’organes artificiels. L’entreprise sera vendue en 2021, ce qui lui permettra de se dédier entièrement à sa carrière artistique. La création a toujours été un pilier dans sa vie. Fort de son expérience entrepreneurial dans l’univers médical, Ruel est formé par Michelle Gerrior, mentor en soins chamaniques traditionnels, et est aujourd’hui en mesure d’offrir des soins énergétiques. Cette formation fut un moment pivot de sa vie. La spiritualité ayant toujours fait partie de son quotidien, c’est une manière pour l’artiste d’y donner un sens et de la transmettre concrètement. Multipliant les différents médiums, c’est avec sa vision révélatrice des connexions universelles et énergétiques de l’invisible qu’il crée ses toiles.

Born in Beloeil (Québec, Canada) in 1990, visual artist Mathieu Ruel developed a strong interest in the visual arts at an early age. Self-taught and naturally curious, Mathieu enjoys exploring new mediums. From a young age, he honed his drawing technique, filling his school notebooks with sketches of human bodies in motion.
Between 2009 and 2014, he took on his first professional challenge by working in emergency services. First as a volunteer firefighter and later as a paramedic, he came into direct contact with life, death, and modern medicine — themes that are central and recurring in his artistic practice.

Mathieu later decided to redirect his career in order to make a living from his artistic creations. In 2014, he became a body art (permanent tattoo) artist. This experience allowed him to reconnect with creation and give free rein to his imagination. He taught himself the trade and also received private training in cinematic special effects, which complemented his newly acquired skills.

In 2017, continuing his extraordinary professional journey, Mathieu Ruel’s artistic and inventive abilities led him to found an innovative medical simulation company focused on the creation of artificial limbs and organs. The company was sold in 2021, allowing him to fully devote himself to his artistic career.

Creation has always been a cornerstone of his life. Drawing on his entrepreneurial experience in the medical field, Ruel trained with Michelle Gerrior, a mentor in traditional shamanic healing, and is now able to offer energy healing treatments. This training marked a turning point in his life. Spirituality has always been part of his daily existence, and this path allows him to give it meaning and transmit it in a tangible way. Working with various mediums, he creates his paintings through a revealing vision of universal and energetic connections with the unseen.
