Née en 1977 au Témiscamingue, Mel Roy emménage dans la ville de Québec dans le début des années 2000. Après un parcours atypique, tel qu’une carrière militaire incluant une mission en Afghanistan, propriétaire d’un restaurant et le retour en classe en 2020, l’art a toujours fait partie de sa vie. Artiste autodidacte, à temps plein depuis mars 2023, elle a toujours été passionnée par l'art depuis son plus jeune âge.

Son parcours artistique a débuté avec le dessin, mais c'est en entrant dans la vingtaine qu'elle a découvert sa véritable passion pour la peinture. Elle a d'abord exploré l'acrylique aux pinceaux sur toile avant de tomber amoureuse de la profondeur et de la texture offertes par la peinture à l'huile. Récemment, elle est revenue à l'acrylique en découvrant une belle qualité de peinture qui lui permet d'exprimer toute sa créativité. Le style artistique de Mel Roy se concentre principalement sur les portraits, qu'ils représentent des personnalités connues ou des inconnus.

Ses œuvres se démarquent par l'utilisation d'un fond noir, d'un sujet en dégradé de noir et blanc, et d'un élément contrastant en couleur vive, comme un cigare dans sa collection "Cigare" ou des lunettes dans sa collection "Perspective". En tant qu'artiste figurative, Mel Roy explore parfois les paysages pour sortir de sa zone de confort et défier ses limites artistiques. Les influences artistiques de Mel Roy sont profondément enracinées dans l'observation des ombres et de la lumière. Elle trouve de l'inspiration dans la minutie des détails et la façon dont chaque objet, sujet ou nuage peut être reproduit sur une toile. Born in 1977 in Témiscamingue, Mel Roy moved to the city of Québec in the early 2000s. After an unconventional journey — including a military career with a mission in Afghanistan, owning a restaurant, and returning to school in 2020 — art has always been a part of her life. A self-taught, full-time artist since March 2023, she has been passionate about art since a very young age.
Her artistic journey began with drawing, but it was in her twenties that she discovered her true passion for painting. She initially explored acrylics using brushes on canvas before falling in love with the depth and texture offered by oil paint. Recently, she returned to acrylics after discovering a high-quality paint that allows her to fully express her creativity.

Mel Roy’s artistic style focuses primarily on portraits, whether of famous figures or unknown individuals. Her works stand out for their use of a black background, a subject rendered in black-and-white gradients, and a contrasting element in bright color — such as a cigar in her “Cigar” collection or glasses in her “Perspective” collection. As a figurative artist, Mel Roy occasionally ventures into landscapes to step out of her comfort zone and challenge her artistic limits.
Her artistic influences are deeply rooted in the observation of shadows and light. She finds inspiration in meticulous detail and in the way every object, subject, or cloud can be reproduced on canvas. She admires all artists for their ability to represent their art in a unique and expressive way.
